Let’s be honest, folks. It’s that time of year as the election approaches — when “politically motivated” establishment Democrats jump up and down with the “go out and vote” and the “we need to win up and down the ballot” message...
But I know firsthand from when I ran for office that when it comes to actually pitching in and rallying behind down-ballot working-class progressives, the support just isn’t there — until it’s too late. The candidates who need tangible grassroots action the most are the ones who often get left behind.
Take Angelina Jackson for example. Angie is running for Judge of Common Pleas Court in Montgomery County, Ohio.
Like all of our Barrier to Entry PAC candidates, Angie comes from a working-class background. Born and raised in Dayton and a long-time Montgomery County resident, she truly understands the struggles that working families in her community face. Angie is a Black mom and an attorney who is ready to bring her acumen, diversity, and lived experience to the bench.

Angie’s got a strong public defense record, fighting for those who can’t afford an attorney and representing individuals struggling with homelessness, addiction, mental health, and poverty. Before becoming a public defender, she provided pro-bono services to victims of domestic violence and families facing eviction.
We need dedicated public leaders like Angie fighting for justice, defending our rights, and leveling the playing field. But she lacked the necessary resources to run for office… so she came to us at Barrier to Entry to help her break the socioeconomic barriers that Black women and low-income candidates commonly face in politics.
Now, after winning her competitive primary and earning the endorsements of major organizations like Planned Parenthood and Vote ProChoice, Angie is headed to the general election in a tough race against a Republican opponent — and she’s urgently counting on us to help boost her campaign during these last few weeks.
In order to do that effectively, we need to hit our FINAL pre-election mid-month goal of raising $9,927 by the critical deadline in just TWO DAYS.
