Team,
With 18 days to go, I wanted to give you an update on our efforts at MSU – and let you know how you can help.
As we told you before, we have a major effort going on on MSU’s campus, with its 50,000 students. Our approach is taken from what has worked in other states like Georgia: paying young people to register their peers. So far, we’ve gotten 232 students involved in our effort and have done 1,146 hours of registering. Our goal is 6,000 voters registered on campus.
Last week was a full week on campus. I grabbed lunch with some of our organizers at the Brody cafeteria on MSU’s campus. It was a great chance for all of us to sit down away from the craziness of the campaign trail and really talk about how things are going.
Then, it was on to the big MSU homecoming weekend. Team Slotkin joined the packed homecoming parade on Friday night and we were up bright and early the following morning for a tailgate on campus with Congressman Hakeem Jefferies (it was his first!). In true Slotkin style, our tailgate featured a hot dog cart and a voter registration booth.
We wrapped up our week at a voter registration rally. A ton of students came out (the day after a big MSU win, no less) to hear about ways they can get involved with Team Slotkin on their campus.
Know a Michigan college student that still needs to register or vote? Send them to michigan.gov/vote. And if they want to join Team Slotkin at MSU, send them to: https://forms.gle/2n5FEVXDUg6Q6mLC9.
We’re able to have such an aggressive MSU strategy thanks to the generosity of our grassroots supporters. Printing registration information cards, reserving a tailgate space, putting together a rally to energize young voters – all costs that don’t immediately come to mind when you decide to run for Congress, but all an important part of giving students the tools they need to make their voices heard. Additionally, we are always hiring more student organizers to join Team Slotkin, who we pay for their important work.
If you’d like to help us with our final 18 days out on MSU’s campus, consider chipping in below. These passionate college students (and I) would appreciate it.
