MD state workers unite for fair contract
“We're back at the bargaining table today to demand the pay and respect we deserve as state employees!” tweeted AFSCME Council 3 on Friday. “Across the state, we've stickered up to send a message that we're UNITED for a #FairContractNow!”

Sharing their love and solidarity
Kevin McCarron and Ellen Chung got married last year when the pandemic was still raging, so many of their friends and family were not able to attend. Folks still wanted to be a part of the happy occasion but when the two went to set up a wedding registry, they realized that “we don’t need anything,” said McCarron, a longtime union member and former treasurer of AFGE Local 12 at the DOL. “So we deleted all the pre-loaded fancy department stores and put in non-profits instead.” One of those was the MWC’s Community Services Agency, and a surprised and delighted CSA Executive Director Letycia Pastrana says that “As far as I know, it’s the first time we’ve been listed in a wedding gift registry!” McCarron said that “we just thought this was a good way to support organizations we believe in.” Find out more about supporting CSA here, and reach Pastrana here: [email protected]

Vote early!
Election Day is in less than three weeks. In many states, in-person early voting begins soon or already has started. Many voters are mailing in their ballots. There’s no time to waste. We all need to encourage our fellow union members to vote early wherever we can. Voting early—whether in person, by mail or dropping off a ballot—makes sure that our votes are locked in. For many union voters, it also will be easier than waiting until Tuesday, Nov. 8. As we gear up for the home stretch of this critical election season, encourage union voters to vote early. And share aflciovote.org with your union members so they can make a plan to vote.
