Team,
Elissa’s opponent has proven time and time again he wants to turn back the clock for Michiganders.
Let’s recap:
Earlier this year, he sent out a fundraising text with a link to cancel “your child’s gender reassignment surgery.” The link directed to a donation page, that appeared to claim that recipients needed to make a contribution to his campaign in order to cancel this made-up appointment.
Then, in their latest debate, when asked if he accepted gay marriage, Elissa's opponent said “I’m not someone who favors that.” He went on to say that he supported the 2004 Michigan ballot measure that banned gay marriage and he voiced his opposition to the Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, the ruling that legalized gay marriage across the country.
Finally, there’s his “100% pro-life, no exceptions” stance on abortion. In his first debate with Elissa, he confirmed that he does not support any exceptions for abortion – including for rape and incest. He was asked about this view (which is completely out of step with the vast majority of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents in Michigan) four times. And each time, his robotic dodge was the same: “I’m pro-life.”
If the GOP flips the House, it’s quite possible he will be asked to vote on both a ban on abortion and vote on banning gay marriage. Those are very real issues, and while Elissa’s opponent has tried to dodge what he'd do, he’s made it clear where he stands.
Michiganders deserve a representative that will fight to preserve their personal rights – not take it away. With less than two weeks until Election Day – will you chip in to help us ensure Elissa’s opponent doesn’t turn back the clock in Congress?
