Team,
We emailed you earlier this week about Elissa’s opponent's out-of-touch views on personal freedom, specifically on choice and gay marriage. He strongly opposes both, describing himself as “100% pro-life – no exceptions.” And in a live debate, he made it clear he is deeply opposed to gay marriage -- he even voted to ban it outright in Michigan.
Last week, a mailer claiming that Michigan’s ballot proposal 3 would allow child sterilization without parental consent — a claim that has been fact-checked and found false by Michigan media — was circulated in MI07. The ballot proposal would actually codify the Roe standard and ensure protections for contraception, IVF, and pre- and post- natal care.
We’ve included a photo of the mailer, so you can see what this stuff actually looks like:
It seems Elissa’s opponent is ending his campaign the same way it started: drumming up fear and hate and using children as political pawns. As a reminder, this spring he sent out a fundraising text prompting recipients to click a link to cancel their child’s “gender reassignment surgery.” The link was, of course, actually his fundraising page.
It’s clear Elissa’s opponent isn’t focusing on the issues Michiganders are talking about when it comes to our kids: playing catch-up from COVID, ensuring school safety, and making mental health resources more readily available. Amazingly, he’s never voted to approve a single dollar for Michigan schools – voting as an extreme outlier against every bipartisan K-12 bill that has come before him in his eight years as a politician.
Elissa’s opponent would rather sow division and fan the flames of the culture wars than support the families he represents. The worst part? This race is going to come down to the wire. We’re working day and night to ensure his extreme views don’t make it to Congress, where there is a very real chance he will be voting on bills pertaining to choice, gay marriage, and the safety of our kids. Chip in to help us keep Elissa’s opponent’s extremism out of Congress.
