Team,
If you’ve followed any of our three campaigns, you've heard me say that a key objective for us is to “lose better”. That means doing just a little bit better in the heavier Republican-leaning areas of Michigan's 7th district.
The election results this week were a perfect example. We won our race by 5% -- our biggest-ever win margin -- and it was driven, in part, by our performance in the deepest red areas of the district.
A state cartographer, Jackson Franks, shared this map on social media of our results. It clearly shows that we were able to turn out Democratic voters in and around the City of Lansing. But it also shows that we flipped Eaton County (my opponent's home county), our wins in smaller towns across the district like Brighton, Howell, DeWitt, and Grand Ledge, and our work to keep margins closer in the more traditional Republican areas:
I credit our amazing team of volunteers for helping us "lose better" -- their hard work, dedication, and conversations with their neighbors are a big reason why we are able to keep winning in tough turf.
And here's one more graphic, from the New York Times, showing our overperformance across the district compared to President Biden in the 2020 presidential election:
Thank you all, again, for your continued support. We truly could not have done any of this without you.
