Albertsons $4B payout to shareholders amid merger paused
A judge in Washington state has temporarily blocked Albertsons from paying a $4 billion dividend to investors as part of the grocery retailer’s proposed merger with rival Kroger, reports The Washington Post. A hearing is set for Nov 17 in King County Superior Court. "Incredibly, in both cases, Albertsons argued in court that the $4 billion dividend – which remember they announced 'in connection with signing of merger agreement' – is not connected to the merger," tweeted UFCW 400. "These billionaires just aren't used to being challenged. But thanks to the tireless efforts of attorneys general, lawmakers, advocates and unions, we have a chance to stop this disaster before it's too late. If you eat food in America, don't sit this one out."

Meet The People: Marlo Bryant-Cunningham
Bryant-Cunningham, president of AFGE Local 32, has been working for the federal government for 26 years. She began her federal career at the U.S. Social Security Administration. In 2012, she transferred to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Being in government for nearly three decades, Bryant-Cunningham has seen it all, including when government employees are being scapegoated for what goes wrong within federal agencies, which makes union work vital for employees. Government work is “critical work,” says Bryant-Cunningham.
