John, earlier this month President Biden led our party through a tough midterm election. Against all the odds, Democrats held our ground and averted a red wave. Now that the dust has settled, you're going to start hearing more and more about the next election.
But before we head forward into 2024, I want to take a moment to look back and share how I came to count President Joe Biden as a colleague, an ally, and a dear friend.
Joe was one of the first people I met when I first moved to Delaware as a young veteran, fresh out of the Navy. We hit it off immediately, finding common ground over our Democratic values, our steadfast commitment to public service, and our fierce devotion to our families.
It was actually Joe Biden who first asked me to run for Congress. I knew that taking on that type of challenge wouldn't be a walk in the park – but I'm sure you won't find it hard to believe that Joe is a very persuasive guy.
Before I knew it, the two of us were hard at work together in Congress – working to make life better for Delawareans and Americans by day and riding the Amtrak home together at night. Together, we've spent countless hours talking shop on the train, fighting for families, and working on legislation to protect our planet, reduce costs for American families, and fix our failing health care system.
Even though Joe isn't riding the Amtrak with me these days, the two of us are still delivering change for the families who need it.
From the Inflation Reduction Act to the landmark infrastructure deal, I'm incredibly proud of all the victories that we've already won for Americans. But there's so many more promises that Joe and I are still fighting to deliver on over the next two years. So please, will you make a donation tonight so that I can keep working with my friend Joe Biden to win real change for your family? We're really counting on your support tonight, John.
