Team,
Last week, the Michigan Board of Canvassers unanimously certified the Nov. 8 election. That means that you’ll now see “official results” on the data related to all Michigan races last month. The certification also solidified my biggest win margin yet at 5.4%.
Prior to 2020, most people didn’t even know about the Board, or the role canvassing plays when it comes to our elections. In short, each county has its own Board of Canvassers, which reviews the county-wide results. Once those Boards certify, the state Board provides a final certification to make everything official.
Every Board – either county or state – consists of four members: two Republicans and two Democrats. In 2020, many Boards in Michigan, including the state Board, saw one or both Republican members question or refuse certification. It’s often forgotten that in 2020, the only reason Michigan certified our election was because one brave Republican on the Board bucked his party and voted with the two Dem members.
Thankfully, this cycle’s certification was much smoother than two years ago. And this year’s election results prove that Michiganders are not going to accept the political instability of the past six years. And it wasn’t just in our race – we saw that in our statewide races, in our federal races, and in flipping both the state House & Senate.
I hope that Michigan can be a standard-setter on how to turn around a state. And that it's the beginning of a statement that the politics of division will not cut it anymore.
Thank you again for all you did to help me and other Michiganders succeed. We’ve been working since 2016 to have Michigan tell a different story, and we feel proud of what we accomplished.
