Transit workers win Labor Organizing Award
“Without organizations like DC Jobs with Justice, (ATU Local) 689 and the rest of these unions in this region wouldn't be able to do what we do,” said ATU 689 president Raymond Jackson Monday night at DC Jobs with Justice’s annual I’ll Be There awards. “Where they're standing at now is where they always stand, right behind the workers,” said Jackson. Local 689 received this year’s Labor Organizing Award for their successful Hubbard Road strike. Presenting the award, MWC president Dyana Forester – who also chairs DCJWJ – called Local 689 “one of our fierce unions” whose members have repeatedly demonstrated their willingness to strike to win their demands. Other award-winners included the DC chapter of the National Domestic Workers Alliance – which won the Community Award – as well as Migrant Mutual Aid and Youth Award winner Luz Chavez.

Time running out to confirm DuBester at FLRA, say fed workers
Area federal workers say urgent action is needed to confirm Ernest DuBester to the Federal Labor Relations Authority, saying it “will help to ensure a fully functioning and fair FLRA and thereby set an example for the rest of the country as to what fair and effective labor‐management relationships can look like.” President Biden nominated DuBester, who’s served as a member since 2009 including two terms as Chair, to the FLRA more than a year ago, but he has yet to be confirmed. “If no action is taken by the end of the year, Mr. DuBester’s FLRA appointment will expire resulting in a split FLRA, unable to function effectively for the foreseeable future,” notes the petition urging Senator Schumer to schedule a vote on the nomination before it expires at the end of the year.
