John, a couple of weeks ago, I reached out to this grassroots team to ask what issues were top of mind heading into the new year. In reading your responses, I was struck by just how many of you were deeply worried about the future of our democracy – particularly the right to vote.
You're not alone in this. You see, long before Capitol Hill became my workplace, I traveled to Washington as a college freshman. There, I stumbled into a hearing for the legislation that would soon become the Voting Rights Act. I was captivated instantly and remained there for hours, watching the testimony and debate. When I left Capitol Hill that day, I knew I had found my calling.
Ever since, I've held firm to the belief that voting is our most sacred right as Americans. And years later, when I returned to Capitol Hill as Delaware's newly-elected Congressman, I had the privilege to serve with one of my heroes, Rep. John Lewis, as I worked on critical legislation to further protect voting rights.
But now – decades since the Voting Rights Act was first passed – Republican legislators are doing whatever they can to get in between voters and the ballot box. We've only just begun the new year, but far-right leaders across the country have already introduced DOZENS of bills to further undermine the right to vote in 2023 – and many of these bills are clearly targeting Black voters.
I am dedicated to doing all that I can to make it easier, not harder, to vote. That's why I support legislation to restore the Voting Rights Act to once again fully protect the right to vote for every American. And I’ve made clear that we can’t let the filibuster stand in the way of our sacred obligation to protect our democracy.
But just as I learned during that first visit to Capitol Hill so many years ago, change starts at the bottom, not the top. That's why I'm asking you to join me in this fight. Please, will you make a donation today to invest in leaders who will restore and strengthen voting rights, not tear them down? Any amount you can spare today will get us one step closer to winning this fight.

Progress in Washington only happens when grassroots people like you raise your voices as one, demanding better and accepting nothing less. Thank you for committing to this work.
Onward,
Tom
