Alex Padilla is the son of immigrants from Mexico. He was born and raised in the proud working class community of Pacoima, California, in the San Fernando Valley.
He worked hard and dedicated himself to books and baseball, graduating from San Fernando High School before heading to MIT, where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
After graduating he moved back home and got to work, first as a member of the Los Angeles City Council, and then in the State Senate before being elected California’s Secretary of State.
As Secretary of State (and therefore California’s chief elections officer) Alex worked hard to make CA’s elections among the most accessible, inclusive, and secure in the country.
And when Kamala Harris became Vice President, Governor Newsom appointed Alex to take her seat — the first Latino to ever represent California in the U.S. Senate.
Then, thanks to the support of people like you, he was elected to a full six-year term in the Senate.
Now, Alex is working hard every day in the Senate to protect our democracy and ensure that ALL of us have a shot at the American Dream. But he cannot do it alone.
Thank you!
