“To Save Money, Maybe You Should Skip Breakfast”
“we have a very entitled generation that has never had to sacrifice” according to BlackRock President Robert Kapito.
So says The Wall Street Journal - the unwavering mouthpiece of big business - to working people who are buckling under the strain of inflation, unable to afford the basics of life: food, rent, and gas.
Do they suggest to tax the stratospheric wealth of the super-rich who are gorging themselves on 75% of all new wealth created?
Tax the profits of the oil and gas industry, which saw jaw dropping profits with Shell alone recorded its highest profits in its 115 year history?
Or how about taxing the food industry - including the egg industry that
has increased its prices 5 fold! - that pulled in an eye watering $305 billion dollars?!
You must be kidding.
While the ruling elite demands belt tightening sacrifice for working people.
We demand a $19/hour minimum wage in Renton.
In 2014, at the behest of a grassroots movement of everyday working people, Seattle became the first major city to pass a $15/hour minimum wage. In doing so, it’s been estimated, that over $2.5 billion was transferred from big business to working people in a ten year period, disproportionately impacting women, people of color, Black, and LGBTQ people.
To tip the scales in favor of working people in Renton we need to build a mass movement capable of bringing some of the most rapacious corporations to their knees.
Can you help tip the scales for working people? Can you donate $19, $50, $100 today?
We can’t forge this grassroots movement without you. We can’t win without grassroots funding. To get more community members involved, we'll need to maintain our one paid organizer and potentially add more. Will you kick down $19, $50, or $100 to send a message to the Billionaire Class that working people support to the hilt a $19/hour minimum wage campaign in Renton?
To get on the ballot, we need to collect over 10,000 valid signatures in Renton. Seattle DSA members have been leading the charge but more is needed. To climb this hill we’ll need to field an army of volunteers, please volunteer at one of these signature gathering events:
