Dear Neighbors,
This week’s update includes several announcements about more federal funding coming to New Jersey to rebuild our water infrastructure, help families afford home energy bills, and make important upgrades to public transit.
New Jersey will receive $94,815,000 from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF). Communities across the state will be able to use the funding to upgrade essential water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure to protect public health and bodies of water.
These funds will help improve and protect our valuable water resources all at the same time. I’m glad to see that the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is continuing to deliver on the promise to improve our state’s infrastructure, and I’ll keep fighting to ensure that our communities have access to clean water. Helping Families Afford Home Energy Bills
New Jersey will receive an additional $35 million for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which helps eligible families afford the costs of home energy bills. To date, New Jersey has received over $490 million for the program. I fought hard for this funding American Rescue Plan as well as a government spending bill and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, because I know working families need relief to make ends meet. Pedestrian Tunnel Coming to Long Branch Train Station
I secured $13.2 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation for construction of a pedestrian tunnel and upgrades to improve the Long Branch Transit Railroad Station. The tunnel will connect the east and west sides of the city that are currently bisected by the rail corridor. It will also provide safe and convenient access to each platform. Currently, many riders are forced to walk across the train tracks, putting their safety at risk.
Other improvements to the station will include reconstruction of the commuter parking lot for multi-model public transportation, ride share, and taxi service, construction of a heated pedestrian over-hang for bus service, and landscape improvements. The tunnel and improvements will make the station more accessible and safer for families who rely on public transit.
