RPA Weekly Recap | March 6, 2023 ARKANSAS LEARNS Representative Keith Brooks (R-Little Rock) presented Senate Bill 294: the Arkansas LEARNS Act before the State House on Thursday, garnering 78 votes, the most for any piece of school choice legislation before the Arkansas General Assembly. SB294, the boldest education reform in the Nation, now heads back to the State Senate to concur in an amendment before heading to Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders for her signature. WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH The Arkansas Federation of Republican Women held their Legislative Day of Action this past week in Little Rock. Leaders from around the state gathered to celebrate the start of Women's History Month, meet with legislators, and to hear from former First Lady Janet Huckabee at lunch. Arkansas Republicans not only boast electing the first female Governor in our history, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, but also the first female Lieutenant Governor, Leslie Rutledge. They are the first women to serve as a state's governor and lieutenant governor concurrently in the Nation's history. RPA Rapid Response: Arkansas LEARNS RPA Chairman Cody Hiland led the first in a new series called RPA Rapid Response,, a conference call with county chairs. This effort will focus on engaging county committees in the legislative process. The Third Congressional District Committee met in Huntsville over the weekend. Congressman Steve Womack and RPA Executive Director Seth Mays spoke to the group, and Chairwoman Susan Gessler was re-elected. The Fourth Congressional District Committee met in Hot Springs over the weekend, also. Congressman Bruce Westerman and RPA Chairman Cody Hiland spoke to the group, and Chairman Eddie Arnold was re-elected.
