Friends -

I went on Lawrence O’Donnell the night I launched my Senate campaign to talk about why I’m running and also something else very specific to the Senate: the filibuster.

We need to get past the idea that a few senators can block progress on something as non-controversial as protecting our children and make it impossible to pass legislation that can improve people’s lives.

That’s why the filibuster as it’s being used currently needs to go.

I’m all in favor of going back to the old school standing filibuster where, if you care passionately about an issue, you can go up there and talk for a zillion hours straight if you want to.

But the idea that a handful of senators can just stop bills from even coming to the floor and getting an up or down vote just doesn’t make sense to me.

In the House, we have so many bipartisan bills that don’t even get a vote in the Senate because of these rules. And it’s a shame because we were sent to Congress to deliver results for our constituents, and this Senate rule is preventing us from making the simplest progress on critical issues.

The frustration on this issue is palpable. I’m running for Senate to help change this dynamic and return to the idea that our government will work for all of us.

If you support that kind of no-nonsense, straightforward approach to getting things done, I hope you’ll consider chipping in today to my Senate campaign and help put us on the path to keeping this seat blue in 2024.
